DAVID EBY’S CONSTITUENTS SEND CLEAR MESSAGE TO THEIR MLA

Citizens converge in protest on Eby’s office in Kitsilano
VANCOUVER (May 22, 2019) - About 75 residents showed up at Vancouver - Point Grey MLA David Eby’s constituency office Tuesday to show their displeasure with his performance as their elected representative.
The group, organized by community activist organization STEPUP, pointed out that the school tax surcharge unfairly targets a specific group of homeowners, is unprecedented in tax law, and arbitrarily pits neighbour against neighbour. Over the past year, citizens advocacy has continued to grow in opposition to this policy.
“This misguided tax on family homes was not in Mr. Eby’s campaign and was implemented after the BC NDP seized power,” said Hans Schneider, who helped to organize the peaceful rally. “As our MLA, Eby - along with John Horgan and Carole James - must be held accountable for these policies that are making the future uncertain for local families and seniors.”
Although David Eby was scheduled to speak at his office on Tuesday evening, he cancelled his engagement at the last minute. No reason was provided for the cancellation, although it coincided with the public announcement of the protest.
STEPUP will continue to advocate on behalf of residents until the school tax surcharge is repealed.
